Water Use

Back to Services

Services

Water use in new dwellings is covered by Part G of the Building Regulations 2013 and encourages its efficient use by specifying water efficient appliances or by using rainwater harvesting or recycled grey-water.  It measures the flow rates of taps, showers, baths and WCs and the water use of washing machines and dishwashers.   A maximum consumption of 125 litres per person person per day is allowed, although some local authorities require 105lppd.

Water consumption can be reduced by fitting flow restrictors to taps and showers; installing delayed inlet valves to WC’s; specifying water efficient washing machines and dishwashers; or by using grey-water collected from baths, showers and kitchen taps and using it to flush WCs.

At Isambard Environmental we are able to prepare the necessary calculations based on your chosen specification and make recommendations as appropriate in order to meet the requirements.

Water use calculations can achieve credits in BREEAM New Construction 2014, the Home Quality Mark and the Code for Sustainable Homes.
